Posh Playrooms

If I had to pin the importance of functionality to one room in my home, the playroom would hold a place at the top of my list. As the mom of two energetic twin girls, I can say from personal experience that tea parties and “dress up” don’t exactly leave the playroom in pristine condition at the end of each day.

Of course, classically current designs don’t have to take a backseat when it comes to functionality. Mountains of toys and scribbles on the wall should be expected, rather than feared, when designing a playroom. This does not mean your playroom can’t look as posh as the rest of your home; you can have the best of both worlds!

5 Tips for Creating the Perfect Play Room!

Hello again!

Since we’re currently working so diligently on Joe’s dream room, we thought we’d send a few tips for children’s rooms your way! Finding the perfect balance between child friendly and fabulously stylish can be tricky. To make the process a little easier, we’ve collected 5 Tips for Creating the Perfect Play Room inspired by Elle Decor.

Continuing on with the keeping-clean lifestyle, we encourage using fabrics and upholstery that is breathable and as stain resistant as humanly possible. Check out our custom fabrics in our boutique to find some inspiration!

  1. COLOR!

Save the neutral hues for your guest suite. Kids love color and we love it too! When collecting inspiration your play room select your favorite bright-colored palette or, better yet, go for the full spectrum.

Where there is a child, there is usually a toy. Creating a space that can fit every trinket into storage is difficult to do without the right tools. Take advantage of spare corners, space under furniture, and be sure to stock up on storage bins that allow for a quick and efficient cleanup by little hands.

Kids love having space to run around! Not to mention the fact that Houston weather can be a bit unpredictable sometimes. Giving your child a space that’s both livable as well as play-friendly will make them feel like they can have just as much fun indoors as out.

Antiques, collectables, one-of-a-kind furniture and dainty accessories are so wonderful – but not anywhere near a playroom floor! Put your “fun to look at, but don’t touch” items up on high shelves or in wall-hung shadow boxes. Your kiddos will love to look at them and you can add to them over time.

Send us your ideas for kid’s play rooms – we’d love to hear them! Visit our blog for more kid’s room requests and designs!

Until next time,

East Shore Retreat Playroom Design!

Hello Everyone![ezcol_2third]

Designing for children’s playrooms is one of our favorite things! Our client’s East Shore Retreat is a second home, and they wanted something more colorful and casual (but still as elegant) as their primary home. We wanted to get in touch with our inner child and design a playroom that a kid would never want to leave. According to our clients, that’s exactly what’s happened—their daughter always wants to be in her playroom!

As we tend to do, we started with a neutral, buttery yellow, backdrop, and then began layering on color.

The brightly striped carpet is both colorful and fun, yet sophisticated enough that it will easily make the transition as the children (and their tastes) mature.

Helpful Tips to Create Real Rooms for Kids

[ezcol_1quarter]Web Bio[/ezcol_1quarter] [ezcol_3quarter_end]Hi All!

Last month Jillian shared some great tips on the blog for decorating kid-friendly playrooms, so we thought today we’d share how we take some of those guidelines and put them to work in our clients’ homes.

We thought we’d double down on our Memorial Park Modern project in Houston and show you the children’s bedrooms and playroom.

Twin boys needed study desks and a little privacy, with their own personal spaces for storage and display. Sleek contemporary lines and colors will transition easily as they grow up and their own design tastes mature. Bright touches of color and eye-catching shapes keep things fun! We put together a design board that includes a neutral palette, and sleek furnishings that include shiny silver accents, along with some pops of bright, juicy orange in various accents which can be switched out when a fresh look is wanted.

Helpful Tips for Designing your Child’s Playroom from Jillian Flynn

[/ezcol_1quarter] [ezcol_3quarter_end]Hi There!
Because this was a recent feature on Dering Hall (“Kid-Friendly Rooms that Inspire the Imagination”), we were inspired to share some of our own guidelines to keep in mind when designing a child’s playroom.
While it may not be, at times, the tidiest room in your home, having a playroom is a fantastic way to give your child their own, personal, space in your home, while at the same time keeping toy creep at bay. What is toy creep? It’s the phenomenon that most families are familiar with where toys are found all over the house.[/ezcol_3quarter_end]
A playroom provides the perfect place to keep your child’s belongings in a contained area. A room for your children can also serve as a fun retreat from their bedroom where they can still have fun with their toys and allow their imagination to flourish. The ideal playroom should be both a fun yet safe place where your kids can escape to enjoy themselves without the direct supervision of their parents. Here are some basic guidelines for designing the perfect playroom.
