We tend to correlate a refined design with neutrals and basics, but who said incorporating bursts of color into a design can’t evoke the same maturity? Working with bright and fun hues are staples of my Classically Current designs, and I love showing my clients that neutrals aren’t the only way to create a chic and sophisticated design.

Check out my top six tips for designing with color, and please excuse the generous amount of images I’m about to share!

By Tara Scott-Johnson,

No matter the size of your home, clutter can quickly consume your space and leave you feeling a little claustrophobic. Out of necessity, and small spaces dwellers have learned how to rid themselves of unnecessary clutter. Let’s take our from the folks that know square footage comes at a premium and every inch of space should be utilized in a creative way – the professional organizer.

The professional organizer has mastered the art of decluttering homes with this simple process. Starting with three boxes marked SAVE, DONATE, and TRASH, go through each room meticulously and purge the space. The goal is to have less items in the SAVE box once the purging process is complete. This process not only declutters your space, it declutters your soul.

The -based Professional Organizer, , tells Chron, “ is your friend!” Reeves stocks his own home with boxes, trays, and other receptacles to hold and store just about everything. Most storage containers can be stored in closets and under beds. But, some containers are decorative enough to sit on bookcases,  open shelving, or stacked on the floor.

Let’s tackle clutter with these creative storage ideas room-by-room:

Trend Watch: Boho Chic

First, the truth: I hesitate to comment very often on interior design trends. While I love the newest of the new, my classically current design philosophy shies away from incorporating “trendy” pieces into my interiors simply for trend’s sake.  Above all, interiors should be timeless, fine, comfortable, and a representation of the real you! For many reasons, I abhor disposable design and never purchase an item for myself that I don’t absolutely love and see being part of my life forever. All that said, there is one look that is currently trending that I am totally over the top about right now: Boho Chic.

This look is a natural progression of the Scandinavian Modern look that was all the rage last year and is still super hot. I have my eye on Boho right now because I am working on a fabulous interior design project in Houston’s Highland Village neighborhood. Our client loves contemporary style and asked us to soften the space with the natural, handmade elements of which the Boho look is known. Alongside the uber-talented Ohorona24.in.ua designers, , principal designer, and , interior designer, I have collected the BEST of the Boho Chic trend.

These are pieces that are bench-made by artisans, lovingly and thoughtfully crafted, and will have longevity and relevance long after this look reaches a fever pitch.

Sweet Summer Style: Blackberry Farm Inspiration

They say summer is the time for a little rest and relaxation, and I couldn’t agree more. Although you can usually find me in the studio working with to create fab classically current interiors for our clients, I’ve already daydreamed my way through two summer-inspired style boards this season (you can find them and ). This week, I couldn’t help but gather my latest inspirations into one more summer-filled style board! For this design, I was inspired by one of my favorite summer destinations, .

For those unfamiliar with this sweet summer escape located in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, Blackberry Farm serves as a luxurious, rustic getaway for anyone looking to leave the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the great outdoors with a glass of wine from a local vineyard in hand- two of my favorite things!

See how I created a classic farm look to bring this quaint, southern charm into an interior design.

Layer on the Texture!

Bringing a richly layered room to life requires each individual element to stand on its own and to blend together with the rest of the space. This is a fun and challenging task and why I love my job as an interior designer! In addition to incorporating color and pattern, multitudes of texture are an integral part of any interior design. From walls and ceilings to creative uses of natural elements, the possibilities to add texture to a room are endless!

Sidekick Side Tables

I’ve often noted that every piece of an interior plays an integral part in the symphony of the room; side tables are no exception! Although they naturally fall into a supporting role (pun intended), these pieces can make a fabulous statement.

From various heights, shapes, styles and functionality, the options are endless! Don’t let this petite accent get the best of you. Let’s first focus on the proper height of your accent for the next time you’re on the hunt.

Summer Holiday Inspiration: Martha’s Vineyard

With the Fourth of July holiday weekend quickly approaching, I’ve been thinking about the many interior (and exterior) design possibilities perfect for summer celebrations and family barbecues.

For those who haven’t visited Martha’s Vineyard, this quaint summer destination spot, located just south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, oozes charm through its light houses, sandy shores and harbor town cottages. Being an island, the only way to get there is by ferry or air-so refreshing!

Inspired by this iconic summer colony, I created a style board that emulates the character of Martha’s Vineyard!

Interior: June Finds

We are now halfway through 2016 (so hard to believe!), and as each month passes, the team finds new and interesting styles or pieces that we like to pull from for inspiration in our fabulous, Classically Current designs.

Here are some favorite finds we spotted in June that are sure to elevate our interiors!

Molly Hatch Ceramics

“I love new take on the classic blue and white ginger jar look. Her large art pieces, all done on plates, create a large scale piece of art that is made up of beautiful little pieces. A fabulous twist on the typical china displayed on the dining wall with a wonderful European feel.” – Ohorona24.in.uamansky, President and Creative Director
