Tour My New Home!

Okay, so I don’t technically have a new home, but with all of the renovations I completed recently, it kind of feels like I do!  It really is amazing what a few small projects can do to transform a home, and I’m so excited to share the results of the recent facelift I gave to my own historic Houston bungalow.

Like many of my ideas, the project started with the small goal of repainting the front door, and quickly snowballed into “just a few more projects.” Fast-forward a couple months and we now have a shiny new front door, an updated entryway, fab new built-ins in the girls’ playroom and master bedroom, and a few more fun improvements that make life just a little easier.

Of course, the updates didn’t happen overnight (or without a few minor meltdowns), but I absolutely LOVE how everything turned out! Read on to get a tour of my “new home.”

The Perfect Kitchen

Full disclosure: I am certainly not an expert chef… Honestly, cooking kind of freaks me out! That said, what I lack in culinary know-how, I make up for in my love for designing the perfect spaces for others to create delicious masterpieces! In my classically current designs, I love creating a space where laughter and memories happen. From bubbly brunches to Sunday dinners, weekend celebrations and even homework time, the kitchen easily becomes one of the most central places to gather in a home – making it one of the most important spaces.

Throughout a kitchen’s interior design process, functionality and livability need to coexist with fabulous style. Here are my top priorities when designing the kitchen of your dreams.

Summer Holiday Inspiration: Martha’s Vineyard

With the Fourth of July holiday weekend quickly approaching, I’ve been thinking about the many interior (and exterior) design possibilities perfect for summer celebrations and family barbecues.

For those who haven’t visited Martha’s Vineyard, this quaint summer destination spot, located just south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, oozes charm through its light houses, sandy shores and harbor town cottages. Being an island, the only way to get there is by ferry or air-so refreshing!

Inspired by this iconic summer colony, I created a style board that emulates the character of Martha’s Vineyard!

Your Guide to the Amazing Drape

It is no secret that I am a BIG fan of drapery! My clients will tell you that they have had many a creative discussion about their need for window treatments and, specifically, beautiful, flowing, airy, drapery. From major statement drapery to quiet, more supporting elements, window coverings play a major role in the interior design of a room.

I have often had a homeowner say they are not interested in drapes or they fear blocking a beautiful view with fabric. My response: drapes have a powerful impact on the overall design of a room and, depending on the vision for the design, can either be a mere softening element or take center stage. With a handsome tie-back, they will never detract from your view. To use drapes to their full potential, here are a few factors to keep in mind.

Key Features to a Moroccan Room

I began my career designing destination interiors and often draw design inspiration from cities and cultures around the world. Because of my severe case of wanderlust, I am always thrilled when the opportunity comes along to create destination-inspired interiors for my clients.

Blending striking pops of color into interiors and experimenting with fun and unique patterns are staples of my Classically Current design philosophy so I was very excited when I received a request from a client to incorporate a Moroccan-inspired theme throughout the home.

When designing destination-inspired interiors, the first order of business is to gain a general foundation of the culture’s influences and unique characteristics. Once the research is finished, you can then begin to thread these particular influences into the design to create an authentic cultural representation throughout the interior. Not to say liberties aren’t taken- they are!-but it is always good to have an understanding of the cultural vernacular.

For example, Morocco’s bold colors, lantern lighting, and distinctive textures are easily recognizable, and I absolutely loved drawing on inspiration from to create the fun, vibrant designs for my client’s home.

Here are some of the key characteristics to keep in mind when incorporating Moroccan style into a design!

Introducing Beacon Hill’s Animale Collection!

Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with fabric to create striking showroom designs featuring Beacon Hill’s stunning new spring Animale Fabric collection. I loved that Beacon Hill sought out a local Houston interior designer (me!) to help debut the new collection. I was honored to be included and thrilled at the challenge of designing vignettes to showcase this fashion-forward collection.

Using the new line of fabrics and Robert Allen furniture pieces, I gathered inspiration from various natural elements to design several vignettes that blended with my Classically Current style. Today, I’m excited to show you the finished products!
