The temperature is starting to slowly turn, autumn seems to be just around the corner, and I’m so ready! It’s one of my favorite seasons. But this week we have another serene and cool retreat in our spotlight to help see our summer out: the living room of our enormously popular Heights Classic project.
This beautiful Craftsman style house in Houston Heights is home to our clients and their rollicking menagerie of beloved pets! They requested a serene but cozy environment for their frequent gatherings of friends and family, or for nights when it’s time to curl up for a quiet evening in.
One of the most important aspects of a neutral palette is a rich layering of detail upon detail. This ensures that the design remains serene, but never boring!
Beautiful hardwood floors provide an organic grounding for the neutral walls and trim. We chose a silky, organic-looking rug that picks up our accent colors, a dusty mauve/plum, and a tangy scarlet orange that provides quirky, bright movement into our palette.
The Craftsman style calls for utility, beauty, and quality hand-craftsmanship. We were careful to ensure that every lovely piece in the room met those standards. In this room, we harkened back to the roots of the Craftsman movement with touches such as the hardwood floors, the linen banding on the semi-sheer draperies, and the ikat-like pillows, even as we moved to a more eclectic, contemporary take in the furnishings.
We love the way this project came together! The clients were amazing and the home is as comfortable in person. As always, you can find more pictures on our online portfolio, or please check out our Pinterest family room board.
See you next week!
