Furniture is a key element to any room, but sometimes you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for. So when you can’t find the perfect piece, what do you do? Go custom! Our go-to is House + Town. They’re experts in crafting quality pieces and we’ve been working with them for years. We first started working with them as Custom Designs under John Greenwood and developed a trusting relationship to create gorgeous pieces for our clients.
Why House + Town?
Sadly, John passed away in 2016. Because we loved working with John and he had built a special company based on his work ethic and integrity, Michael and I stepped in to continue the company’s tradition of designing high quality, custom pieces. Having been a part of the Houston community for over 40 years, we re-branded the business using the name House + Town, a bit of a play on the word ‘Houston’ and also a description of what we do: custom upholstery for the home and for businesses.
One of the best parts of designing custom furniture is that each piece tells a story. It’s customized to fit the designer and client’s needs, lifestyle and is a reflection of their personality. Each piece is one of a kind and constructed by skilled woodworkers, seamstresses, cushioners, and upholsterers. We have designed so many beautiful pieces over the years and today we wanted to share a few of our favorites with you.
Pieces We Love!
An ottoman in the bathroom is not only perfect for sitting down after a long day but gives the space a luxurious feeling. We selected a gorgeous Architex fabric for this sweet pale pink ottoman and the gold base gives this feminine bathroom a sophisticated touch.
This fabulous Mid-Century inspired bench was crafted custom, to fit the exact measurements of the wall. The denim-hued leather from Jerry Pair compliments the room’s crisp color palette and the vinyl wallpaper of the accent wall. It definitely makes a statement!
This tete-a-tete was inspired by a piece we loved. It didn’t quite fit the client’s needs, so we created a design to fit the space! It meshes the idea of a sofa and a tete-a-tete to create a unique piece for this formal living room. It has custom dimensions, fabric selections, and structure. It looks gorgeous in the room!
So Much More …
In addition to custom seating, we also craft one-of-a-kind headboards, paneling and reupholster existing pieces. I love this space because of the depth created by the leather. The camel wall paneling layered with a custom headboard has a modern, but slightly retro vibe. These Jessica Charles lounge chairs via Stetzel and Associates are reupholstered in a cool, cobalt Kravet fabric to compliment the camel walls. It’s a neutral and calming color palette.
So whether you’re, designing something new or repurposing an existing piece, there is so much you can do with custom pieces. We want our clients to have the best so you can see why we love House + Town. They’re local and create exceptional pieces.. having access to a local workroom means we can visit often and keep tabs on the progress.
