Traveling is one of my favorite pastimes. I take every chance I get to explore new places and I often find myself daydreaming of the vacation spots that I’ve either visited in the past or hope to in the future. Of course, this daydreaming quickly turns into design inspiration and that’s what I truly relish about travel!
In the spirit of the summer travel season, I decided to pull interior design inspiration from some of my favorite vacation destinations to create style boards that reflect the qualities of these amazing places!
First up, the charming beach town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. As the temperatures quickly rise in Houston, my mind often drifts to Carmel’s sandy beaches and cool blue oceans. In a town this idyllic, there is far too much inspiration for one board so all of my ideas became two separate projects, each with their own unique style and highlighting my favorite aspects of this quaint vacation spot!
Vibrant and Fun
I gravitated toward lighter and brighter hues for this theme and turned my Classically Current style into a timeless interior fit for any ocean-front property. These colors work well to create a fun space for entertaining guests inside and outdoors. Because of the gorgeous climate, most residents of Carmel live inside and out year round!
Rug: For a beach-inspired design, I tend to pull from natural elements and translate them into my classically current style. This rug by Thomas Paul features a contemporary take on oceanic waves without being too literal.
Chairs: The light, off-white fabric and oak wood base chairs by Dmitriy & Co. are a perfect combination to freshen up a space and bring the beachy sands inside, creating a fabulous interior design.
Coffee Table: Among all the vibrant hues, I chose a deep tone for the centerpiece to keep the room in balance. The walnut veneers and brass detailing of this cocktail coffee table by Bernhardt create the perfect blend of glam and nature.
Mirror: The resemblance of this cast mirror by Serena and Lily to a clam shell and beach life brings an outdoor element into the home.
Wallpaper: If you read the blog regularly, you’ll remember that coral is quickly becoming a favorite staple of mine, and this style board was a perfect opportunity to use the striking hue! I fell in love with this coral wallpaper when Supply Showroom stopped by the office and showed off their new fun prints.
For the finishing touch, accessorize with oversized coffee table books and a succulent!
Chairs: Rattan holds up well outdoors, and these fun lounge chairs by Janus et Cie are perfect to relax on when soaking up some rays with friends.
Side Table: This versatile side table by Serena and Lily can double as a flat surface to hold your cocktail or an extra seat when entertaining a lot of guests.
Umbrella: When the Cali sun beams down, this canopy umbrella shades guests and adds a fabulous pop of orange to the patio design.
Fabrics: These playful patterns are bright, dynamic and perfect for pillows or upholstery. For this design, Perennials Fabrics had awesome red coral and blueberry prints, which add fabulous hints of color and fun to the atmosphere!
For a more understated design, I kept the same layout but went with deeper, more subtle hues. The key here was balancing colors so that one single shade didn’t overwhelm the entire room.
Table: The unique shape of the coffee table by Made Goods serves as a amazing statement piece for the room, and the gold trim and bold pattern are the perfect touches to bring soft elegance to the design.
Rug: This is one of my favorites on this style board! This Meandor Rug by Emporium Home features a watercolor pattern that plays up the oceanic theme while upholding a refined and sophisticated interior design style.
Mirror: There are so many fab elements to this lapis mirror that make it ideal in this interior. Aside from the gorgeous color, the elegant shape compliments the stately design and the detailed gold trim adds the perfect touch of glam. Love!
To top it off, a succulent, large shell and my favorite Capri Blue Candle.
Chairs: These outdoor-friendly lounge chairs by Janus et Cie feature fabulous geometric shapes that give dimension to the design.
Sconce: Adding this gem sconce by Holly Hunt to the design was a no-brainer. It pairs perfectly with the chairs and adds stylish lighting to the outdoor design.
Fire Pit: For when the sun dips beyond the horizon, this Brown Jordan fire pit is the perfect piece to warm up during those cool, Carmel evenings!
No matter if you live on the coast or enjoy city life, you can bring your favorite destinations into your home via color, texture, and travel inspiration!
